11-city tour with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg

Yuja Wang joins the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg for an 11-city tour this month. Musical director, Gustavo Gimeno will lead the award-winning orchestra for all concert dates. Ms. Wang performs Ravel’s virtuosic Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, a work that she has reprised many times this season. Her recent performance with the San Francisco Symphony received critical praise from the San Francisco Chronicle:

“In Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, Wang’s playing was a starburst of wit and dark expressivity, from the steely strut of the parallel chords that open the jaunty central section of this one-movement work to the intricate polyphony of the cadenza that precedes its close.”

She also interprets Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a light-hearted work, which he composed for his son Maxim’s 19th birthday; and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a signature piece for Yuja, previously heralded by the LA Times for her thrilling performance: “She played long solo jazz passages with the kind of nonchalance that Gershwin displayed at the keyboard. She flirted with the keys in lyrical passages.” Mr. Gimeno will conduct the OPL in Tchaikovsky’s The Tempest, Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, and Stravinsky’s The Firebird.

Concert dates include June 2 at the Philharmonie Luxembourg in Luxembourg City; June 3 at the BOZAR in Brussels; June 5 at the Kuppelsaal, Hannover Congress Centrum, in Hannover; June 6 at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf; June 7 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg; June 9 at the Cankarjev Dom Cultural and Congress Centre in Ljubljana; June 11 at the Konzerthaus in Dortmund; June 12 at the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna; June 14 at the Ephesos Ancient Theatre in Selçuk/İzmir; June 15 at the Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center in Istanbul, and concluding on June 17 at the Mégaron Mousikis in Athens.
