BBC Proms with Kirill Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic

Yuja Wang returns to the renowned BBC Proms for a performance with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and its incoming chief conductor, Kirill Petrenko. In this eight-week long season of daily classical music concerts, the ensemble will perform on September 1 at Royal Albert Hall. Ms. Wang will perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concert No. 3 with Dukas’ La Péri Fanfare and Schmidt’s Symphony No. 4 completing the program. Yuja received critical acclaim for her performance of Prokofiev’s third concerto with Petrenko and the ensemble earlier this year:

“[Ms. Wang] launched into Prokofiev’s first movement with steely ferocity: the Allegro was fast, explosive, exciting and with her left hand sternly riveting rhythm and harmony into the texture. With Petrenko and the orchestra matching her, this was a performance of diamantine brilliance and precision, the first movement’s dash to the finish eliciting immediate applause from the audience. The finale was another rollercoaster ride, and the theme-and-variation second movement allowed Wang to showcase playing of remarkable beauty, patience and hush.” (Bachtrack)
