Best of 2018 Awards

“The Berlin Recital”, Yuja Wang’s critically acclaimed album released by Deutsche Grammophon, was named one of Gramophone’s 2018 Recordings of the Year. The album was recently listed as one of Gramophone’s December Editor’s Choices as well. Please enjoy Gramophone’s annual Recordings of the Year free digital magazine here.

A further accolade for Yuja is her recent Grammy nomination for her recording of Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle. Nominated in the “Best Classical Instrumental Solo” category, Ms. Wang and the ensemble’s performance had critics raving:

“The Chinese pianist Yuja Wang joins the orchestra for the Bartók concerto. The first movement is played with scintillating virtuosity by all concerned. The start of the second movement is breathtakingly hushed, the Berlin strings showing amazing dynamic control. Wang matches their delicacy at first, though a little later, mirroring the forceful timpani, her playing has great power. The central scherzo-like episode scurries along. In the bravura finale Wang plays with terrific virtuosity, her technical prowess matched at every step by Rattle and the orchestra. Her selection of the Rachmaninov Vocalise as an encore is an inspired choice since it lowers the temperature and also allows her another opportunity to display the sensitive side to her pianism.” (MusicWeb International)
