Franck • Chopin – now available for purchase

Yuja Wang and cellist Gautier Capuçon’s new album “Franck • Chopin” is now available for purchase. Released by Warner Classics / Erato, the album was recorded during the duo’s North American tour in Spring 2019. The Classical Review acclaimed: “Capuçon and Wang share a similar vigor and alert spontaneity that make it seem as if they are finishing each other’s phrases … It seemed that the two had been playing together for a lifetime.”

The program for the album comprises two works by Chopin, his Sonata in A Major and his Polonaise brillante in C Major, and Franck’s Sonata in A Major, a transcription by the 19th-century cellist Jules Delsart of the Belgian composer’s glorious violin sonata. European classical music fans can look forward to Yuja and Gautier’s concert tour with this program in January 2020. More information and ticket links are available via Yuja’s Calendar.

The album booklet, written by Julian Haylock, notes that Chopin’s Sonata in A major resulted in a “volatile soundworld, whose tendency towards restless emotional changeability anticipates the music of Gustav Mahler some 50 years later.” Further, it compares Chopin’s Introduction and Polonaise brillante, saying the work “sounds like music from another world,” with “the most scintillating passages of pyrotechnical endeavor are reserved for the piano.”
