‘Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes’ on tour with the LA Phil

Yuja Wang returns to Los Angeles for two concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic before embarking on a concert tour with the orchestra to Mexico City, London, Boston, and New York. Yuja will reprise John Adams’ bewitching new piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes, which she premiered and toured internationally with the ensemble in the 2018/19 season. The upcoming tour marks the premiere of the work in each city.

Under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, the program will include Ginastera’s orchestral work that is effectively a mini-concerto for a virtuoso orchestra, Variaciones Concertantes; and Stravinsky’s revolutionary work that redefined 20th-century music, The Rite of Spring. In Mexico City, the LA Phil will also play Gabriela Ortiz’s Téenek – Invenciones de Territorio, described as “a sonorous metaphor of our transcendence.”

Before the tour launches, performances will take place on November 7 & 8 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Concert tour dates include November 13 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City; November 18 at Barbican Hall (initiating Yuja’s season-long Barbican Artist Spotlight); November 23 at Symphony Hall in Boston; and November 25 at David Geffen Hall in New York City.
