Performances at the 2023 Verbier Festival

This July, Yuja Wang will grace the Verbier Festival in a series of electrifying performances alongside several other leading musicians of our time. Ms. Wang has become a frequent guest of the festival in recent years following her highly acclaimed recital debut in 2008.

On July 14, Yuja Wang takes the stage with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, conducted by the legendary Zubin Mehta, to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. This awe-inspiring event will be held in the enchanting Salle des Combins.

Then, on July 19, Yuja will join forces with violinist Daniel Lozakovich, violist Antoine Tamestit, and cellist Klaus Mäkelä for an enthralling concert of chamber works at Église de Verbier. The program will include both the hauntingly beautiful Cello Sonata in G minor and Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as Johannes Brahms’ exquisite Piano Quartet No. 2 in A major, Op. 26.

On July 23, music lovers will have the privilege of witnessing another extraordinary chamber music concert at the Église de Verbier, featuring Yuja Wang and the remarkable cellist Gautier Capuçon. Together, they will take the stage to perform Benjamin Britten’s emotive Sonata for cello and piano in C major, Op. 65, Frédéric Chopin’s Introduction and Polonaise brillante in C major for cello and piano, Op. 3, and Edvard Grieg’s Sonata for cello and piano in A minor, Op. 36.

As the pinnacle of the Verbier Festival’s 30th Anniversary, Yuja Wang will be a featured soloist in the Gala concert on July 24, gracing the stage alongside a constellation of legendary artists who’ve appeared with the festival in its history. This extraordinary program will begin with Rachmaninoff’s 10 Preludes, Op. 23, and Yuja Wang will showcase her brilliance with a mesmerizing rendition of the Prelude in G-Flat Major, Op. 23 No. 10 (Largo), the magnificent final prelude of the set.  Taking place at Salle des Combins, this festive event will also be broadcast live at the Cinéma de Verbier.

Finally, on July 25, in her grand finale at this year’s festival, Ms. Wang will unite with Renaud Capuçon and Klaus Mäkelä as they perform Franz Schubert’s enchanting Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat major, Op. 100, within the gorgeous walls of the Salle des Combins.

Ms. Wang’s performances on July 14, 19, 24, and 25 will be available for digital streaming through medici.tv to audiences worldwide.
