Season Opening Gala Concert with the National Symphony Orchestra

On September 28, Yuja Wang joins the National Symphony Orchestra, led by Gianandrea Noseda, for the Kennedy Center’s season opening gala concert. The program explores how great composers of the last century have embraced the distinctly American art form with gusto, creating unforgettable music that fans of all genres adore.

Yuja Wang interprets Shostakovich’s ebullient Piano Concerto No. 2. The jazz-influenced program will also include Bernstein’s Divertimento, Stravinsky’s Circus Polka and Scherzo à la Russe, Shostakovich’s Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2, and Gerswhin’s An American in Paris. Inspired by the time Gerswhin had spent in Paris, the work evokes the sights and energy of the French capital in the 1920s.
