Yuja Wang is the featured soloist for the inaugural performance of the National Youth Orchestra of China, in their first-ever concert hosted at New York’s Carnegie Hall on July 22. Ms. Wang performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on a concert featuring works from the late 19th and early 20th century, which also includes Long’s The Rhyme of Taigu and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”). All three pieces highlight reflections on folk music from various countries, presented in symphonic form. Conductor Ludovic Morlot leads the programme, a highlight of Carnegie’s summer presenting season.
