Yuja Wang returns to the Verbier Festival for concerts to celebrate its 25th year

This summer, Yuja Wang returns to Switzerland for the renowned Verbier Festival to perform with the world’s leading orchestras and musicians. This year marks ten years since Yuja made her debut at the festival, and she will perform in a special curated series of concerts this season.

Beginning on July 25, Yuja Wang and an elite roster of classical music stars will join together for the Verbier Festival Gala Concert to commemorate its 25th anniversary. The impressive line-up will include over 30 international musicians, such as Martin Fröst, Martha Argerich, and Lisa Batiashvili, with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra at the Salle des Combins. Yuja will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio with violinist Leonidas Kavakos and cellist Gautier Capuçon. This concert will receive a broadcast by Medici.tv and Espace 2.

Following this event, Yuja will perform a concert on July 27 at the Église. She will share the stage with an esteemed group of string players including Renaud Capuçon, Leonidas Kavakos, Gérard Caussé, and Clemens Hagen. The program will begin with Mozart’s Divertimento for string trio, and conclude with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio.

Yuja Wang will perform again at the Église on July 31, with a fantastic group of musicians, including Pamela Frank, Leonidas Kavakos, Ori Kam, Clemens Hagen, Martin Fröst, and Magdalena Kožená. The program will include Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes, Strauss’ Rosen aus dem Süden and Kaiser-Walzer, Fauré’s La Bonne Chanson, and Chausson’s Chanson perpétuelle.

Ms. Wang will end her time at the Verbier Festival with a concert at the Salle des Combins on August 5. Gianandrea Noseda takes the podium with the Verbier Festival Orchestra in an all-Prokofiev program including L’amour des trois oranges,  and his Piano Concertos No. 3 and No. 5. This concert will be broadcasted by Medici.tv and Espace 2.

In 2017, Yuja and Maestro Noseda performed Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 5 receiving critical acclaim:

“Wang attacked the solo part of Prokofiev’s concerto with the fury of a whirling dervish. Her percussive touch, all jabs and stinging attacks, was a hard-edged thrill in this tour de force work.” (Washington Classical Review)
