Yuja Wang returns to San Francisco for concerts with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. Presented in affiliation with the Global Climate Action Summit, which runs September 12-14 in San Francisco, the program will feature two seasonally inspired soundscapes.
Concerts will be held September 13, 14, 15 & 16 in Davies Symphony Hall. Under of baton of Michael Tilson Thomas, Yuja will share the stage with the world-class ensemble in a program beginning with Yuja’s virtuosic take on Ravel’s Piano Concerto for Left Hand. Also on the program is Castiglioni’s collection of eleven musical poems Inverno in-ver with added video design by Clyde Scott to create an interactive visual winter world. Completing the evening is Copland’s inspiring and symbolic ballet suite Appalachian Spring, a staple in American music that depicts the pastoral mountain range.
Adding to this climatic program is vocalist Abigail Washburn who will open with a performance of traditional songs with added projections from the COAL + ICE photo exhibition, a collection of images that follows climate change from the earth’s coal mines to its vanishing glaciers.
