Yuja Wang and Leonidas Kavakos at the Lucerne Festival

This month, Yuja Wang and her frequent collaborator, Leonidas Kavakos, join together for a concert at the Lucerne Festival on August 19. The outstanding soloists, together, “they sound like a single organism” (Financial Times), will perform works by Mozart, Prokofiev, Bartók, and Strauss.

Yuja and Leonidas are regular recital partners, and their collaboration has included tours and a critically acclaimed recording of Brahms Violin Sonatas in 2014.  At the Lucerne Festival, the program will include Mozart’s Violin Sonata in B flat major, Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1, Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1 for Violin and Piano, and Strauss’ Violin Sonata in E-flat Major. Earlier this year, Ms. Wang and Kavakos reunited for a performance at Carnegie Hall, part of Yuja’s Perspectives series, garnering critical praise:

“Members of the audience were visibly moved by the beauty of the performance, which brought tears to the eyes of some. The general sentiment from all those present was that just when Kavakos and Wang seem to have reached the topmost peak of their artistry, they climb once again to even greater heights. They left the audience with such a powerful impression, some could not speak or even stand after the second encore.” (The National Herald)
