In the month of August, Yuja Wang is set to collaborate with conductor Klaus Mäkelä and the Oslo Philharmonic, promising unforgettable performances at two of the most prestigious festivals in Europe: Edinburgh International Festival and the Lucerne Festival.
On August 22, the musical journey commences at the Edinburgh International Festival, where the audience will be treated to a captivating program that includes Maurice Ravel’s evocative Piano Concerto for the Left Hand and his mesmerizing Piano Concerto in G, both of which showcase Ravel’s exceptional compositional artistry for piano. Dmitri Shostakovich’s monumental Symphony No. 5 will also be featured, offering a profound and emotional musical experience.
On August 25, the collaboration continues at the Lucerne Festival, where Maurice Ravel’s virtuosic Piano Concerto in D major for the Left Hand and Piano Concerto in G will be again performed, showcasing Ms. Wang’s virtuosic playing. The Oslo Phil will also play Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Tempest: Symphonic Fantasia in F minor, a composition inspired by William Shakespeare’s timeless play. The evening concludes with Alexander Scriabin’s Le Poème de l’Extase, Op. 54, a symphonic masterpiece known for its lush harmonies and emotional depth.
