On July 9, Yuja Wang will perform two concerts with the Münchner Philharmoniker under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti, part of the “Klassik am Odeonsplatz” in Munich. Marking the 20th anniversary of the “Klassik am Odeonsplatz,” Ms. Wang will perform one of the most beloved piano showpieces in the symphonic repertoire, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Following, the program will feature works inspired by Spanish and folk themes, including Rimsky-Korsakov’s virtuosic Capriccio Espagnol, and then Chabrier’s España. Composed in 1883 following a trip to Spain, John Henken, Director of Publications for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, explains that Chabrier’s rhapsody “captures the color and excitement of the Andalusian music he heard, and it reveals his imaginative flair for instrumentation.” The evening will conclude with Ravel’s famous Bolero.
This performance will be broadcast on ZDF television on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 10.30 p.m CEST, and re-broadcasted on Saturday, July 17, 2021, via 3sat at 8.15 p.m CEST. You can also watch the stream via BR-KLASSIK-Concert on Friday, July 9th, at 10.30 p.m, with the concert available for 30 days on-demand via BR-KLASSIK-Concert. The concert will be re-transmitted on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 6:05 p.m. as part of the “festival time” series on the radio program BR-KLASSIK.
