On August 4, Yuja Wang joins conductor Klaus Mäkelä and the BBC Symphony Orchestra for an electrifying performance of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini at the BBC Proms 2023. Following their exceptional Proms debut together last year, Mäkelä and Wang embark on a captivating journey, embracing the epic work’s mercurial emotions and technical demands.
After the intermission, the renowned American baritone, Thomas Hampson, takes the stage with the orchestra and the BBC Symphony Chorus to deliver a stirring rendition of Walton’s biblical masterpiece, Belshazzar’s Feast. Adding to the evening’s allure, the concert begins with the UK premiere of Jimmy López Bellido’s Perú negro, an exuberant tribute rejoicing in the splendor of Afro-Peruvian music’s opulent songs, captivating dances, and cherished traditions.
