This season, Yuja Wang brings the music of Brahms, Schumann, and Beethoven to stages across the U.S. and European continent. Works featured on her tour programme include Brahms’s Ballades Op. 10, Nos. 1 & 2; Schumann’sKreisleriana, Op. 16, “Phantasien für das Pianoforte;” and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 29, “Hammerklavier.”
In a recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Yuja shared insights on the music of Brahms: “The more one plays, the more you see the structuring, how everything comes out of what was before and how the whole piece is related. It’s such genius of mind, but also so much emotion, so touching.”
She launches her tour on May 2 at Santa Barbara’s Granada Theatre, and continues on to the Soka Performing Arts Center in Aliso Viejo on May 3, and Weill Hall at Sonoma State University on May 6. She is also featured at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe on May 9 and the Virginia Arts Festival in Norfolk on May 11.
Yuja returns to New York City on May 14 in performance at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perleman Stage, which will receive a live radio broadcast via WQXR 105.9 FM over the air and at wqxr.org, and a video webcast via medici.tv. Video from the medici.tv stream will be available for 90 days following the original airdate.
Ms. Wang continues on to Europe, beginning her second phase of the tour on June 11 at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf; June 13 at the Berliner Philharmonie; the Philharmonie de Paris on June 15; the Musiekgebouw Eindhoven on June 17; and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on June 19. She performs on June 21 at the Laiezshalle in Hamburg, and completes the tour on June 25 at the Great Hall of the Zürich Tonhalle.
