This autumn, Yuja Wang embarks on a tour with the Wiener Philharmoniker through China, presenting concerts in Macao, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Wuhan. For the program, Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts the orchestra in Stravinsky’s revolutionary suite, The Rite of Spring, and Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 9 “From the New World.” Ms. Wang will interpret one of her signature works by Rachmaninoff: the Piano Concerto No. 3. She recently performed the work at the BBC Proms, receiving rave reviews:
“Wang’s remarkable advocacy of Rachmaninov’s Third owed nothing to corny and overwrought pianistic gestures, and everything to a quiet, sustained artistry. She looked for and found an ever-shifting palette of colours in music that has much more to offer than shades of the deepest Russian blue.” – The Arts Desk
Before the tour, Ms. Wang will join the ensemble for three performances, on October 11 at the Reduta Bratislava Concert Hall in Slovakia, on October 15 at the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, and on October 16 at Graz’s Musikverein. Tour dates in China include October 21 & 22 at the Open Air in Macau; October 24 at Guangdong Xinghai Concert Hall; October 28 at Shanghai Oriental Art Center; and concluding on October 30 at Qintai Concert Hall in Wuhan.
