Yuja Wang and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will embark on an extensive European tour of nine cities, featuring ten individual concerts. The events in Paris will be hosted at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, followed by dates in Helsinki, Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, Rosenheim, Vaduz, Munich, Eindhoven, and Frankfurt (complete dates and programme details can be found here). Ms. Wang will serve as soloist and conductor for the Beethoven concerti to be performed, marking her public debut leading an ensemble. Works highlighted on the Paris, Helsinki, and Frankfurt concerts also include Chopin’s Andante spianato for solo piano, and the composer’s Grande polonaise brillante for piano and orchestra.
The tour will be the second collaboration between the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Ms. Wang. Their first joint endeavor, in April 2010, included performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, conducted by the late Claudio Abbado. This collaboration also produced a critically acclaimed recording on the Deutsche Grammophon label (Amazon / iTunes).
