Speaking of Mr. Salonen, a month before “Elektra,” he led the New York Philharmonic in an ecstatic and mystical account of Messiaen’s “Turangalîla-Symphonie,” with Yuja Wang playing the formidable solo piano part. Here was a hint of what Mr. Salonen, currently the Philharmonic’s composer in residence, might have done had he been chosen to succeed Alan Gilbert as the orchestra’s music director.
