Ravel with the Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur

Yuja Wang returns to Switzerland for a concert with the Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur led by Roberto González-Monjas. The ensemble will perform a program of twentieth-century French music by Ravel, Roussel and Debussy.

On November 3, Yuja plays Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, a piece that Ms. Wang recorded in her 2015 “Ravel” album with Deutsche Grammophon. Yuja has displayed her uninhibited virtuosity in this technical piece before, recently receiving acclaim from San Francisco Classical Voice: “Using half of her regular facility in Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, Wang played more expressively than I’ve ever heard her. Delicate moments, and especially the cadenza’s fluttering cascades, were exceptional.”

Also on the program is Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande for orchestra, arranged by Marius Constant, and Roussel’s Symphony No. 1 Le poème de la forêt, an impressionistic piece that traces the cycle of seasons from winter to autumn through its four movements.
